I fly: here over the water-there under the trees…
Installation 2013 Driftwood, Screws, Salt, Light, The music score of Violin Concerto No.1, Op. 35 by Karol Szymanowski 1900×1000×510mm
The boat made of driftwood and music score is salt crystalized. In Buddhism, it is said that people have to cross the river after 7days from his death. (“The River of Tree Crossing”) Good person is allowed to cross a bridge, criminal has to cross the shallow stream, and villain has to cross the deep and rapid stream. The river indicates the border of this world and the other world (the world of the dead). I think most of classic music expresses feeling of pleasure, sadness, expectation…of life or life itself. Especially, Violin Concerto No.1, Op. 35 by Karol Szymanowski who composed this inspired by the poem, May Night by Tadeusz Michinski put me the impression of mysteriousness, beauty, instability, imperfectness, fear, reverie, floating, and never moving to a goal in the dynamic, stillness and constantly fluctuating melody. It let me to imagine “The River of Tree Crossing” which I have never experienced.
